Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis has disclosed a cybersecurity incident in which an external actor gained unauthorized access to its systems and internal tools. The company stated that the intruder utilized offensive agentic techniques to execute the breach. Chainalysis confirmed that some non-sensitive customer data was exposed during the event. The specific records accessed included user IDs, full names, email addresses, and organizational role labels for users provisioned on the platform. The company noted that the term agentic generally describes AI systems capable of executing multi-step tasks with limited human intervention, indicating that an AI-powered tool was used in the attack.

Chainalysis reported that it found no evidence of unauthorized access to investigation content, authentication credentials, or session tokens. The company is currently determining which specific records were accessed for each organization. In response to the incident, Chainalysis engaged third-party cybersecurity experts and is using large language models to review its security posture. The firm is also patching vulnerabilities and hardening its systems. Chainalysis has not shared technical details about the intrusion, including which specific vulnerabilities were exploited or how long the attackers had access to the systems.

The company emphasized that this security incident is not related to the recent crypto theft at Binance. Chainalysis is separately tracking the multibillion-dollar hack at Binance, noting that the attackers involved in that case are using a Tron protocol to dodge stablecoin freezes. Chainalysis stated that it is observing an industry-wide rise in AI-driven cyber attacks. The disclosure of the incident was made on Friday at roughly 5:14 PM ET.

Customers are advised to enable two-factor authentication and remain vigilant for unexpected password reset requests or scammers impersonating Chainalysis. The company continues to assess the full scope of the data exposure while working to secure its infrastructure against future threats.
