Turo to Label Teslas With Full Self-Driving Software
Turo will identify Teslas equipped with Full Self-Driving software and offer hosts a free one-month trial.
Turo will begin advertising which Teslas on its marketplace are outfitted with Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software. The company is working with Tesla to directly access the automaker's API to verify which vehicles have the feature enabled. Eligible Turo hosts who rent their cars on the platform will receive a free one-month trial of the software. Turo listings allow owners to promote their cars as "Self-Driving."
Tesla revealed that around 1.7 million customers have paid for the software globally. More than 75% of customers who took delivery of a car in North America during the third-quarter paid for a subscription. The Model 3 and Model Y are the third- and fourth-most popular vehicles on Turo's platform this year. Turo chief executive Andre Haddad stated that most travelers have had limited opportunity to experience driver assistance technology.
Customers renting an FSD-enabled Tesla will see cautionary language requiring them to monitor the software. The Turo app states that when enabled, the vehicle will drive almost anywhere with active supervision requiring minimal intervention. Drivers will have the option to view a Tesla-created tutorial. Turo's research shows that 55% of Americans and 71% of Gen Z are interested in driverless technology for travel.
