OpenAI and Anthropic Adjust LLM Pricing Strategies
OpenAI and Anthropic have updated the pricing for several of their large language models over recent months.
OpenAI initially set the price for GPT-5.6 Sol at $5 per input MTok and GPT-5.6 Luna at $1 per input MTok. Anthropic announced Claude Sonnet 5 on June 30, 2026, with a temporary price of $2 per input MTok. The company also priced Claude Opus 5 at $5 per input MTok. OpenAI subsequently cut the price of GPT-5.6 Luna by 80% on July 30, 2026, and announced a roughly 20% price cut for GPT-5.6 Sol on August 21, 2026.
Anthropic announced Fable 5.1 on September 1, 2026, pricing it at $10 per input MTok. OpenAI announced GPT-6 Sol on September 22, 2026, at $2 per input MTok, and simultaneously released GPT-6 Luna at $0.10 per input MTok. Anthropic priced Claude Opus 5.5 at $4 per input MTok. OpenAI later cut the cache price for GPT-6.1 Sol in half.
