Grok releases first seven minutes of AI-generated Odyssey
Grok has released the opening segment of its AI-generated film adaptation of The Odyssey, a project previously announced by Elon Musk.
Grok released the first seven minutes of its AI-generated version of The Odyssey. The project was developed in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker. Elon Musk had declared three months prior that Grok would release a full-length, historically accurate movie version of the epic. The new footage features characters with Musk-approved skin colors and a narrator using a British accent. No characters speak in ancient Greek. The segment includes bearded faces shouting stilted lines delivered via voiceover. A reviewer noted the version lacks a sense of artistry, inspiration, or human interest.
This release follows Christopher Nolan’s version of The Odyssey, which was released in July and became an extraordinary box office success. Nolan’s film was primarily a feat of practical filmmaking with a shoot spanning six countries. Nolan described himself as a techno-skeptic who had never seen a technology so completely rejected by the public before AI. Musk previously criticized Nolan’s version because it cast nonwhite and transgender actors.
