Matiks raises $10 million in pre-Series A funding
General Catalyst led a $10 million pre-Series A round for the math and puzzle gaming platform Matiks.
Matiks has raised $10 million in pre-Series A funding, bringing its total capital raised to over $13.5 million. General Catalyst led the investment round, with participation from Indian entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala, InfoEdge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners, and Untitled Ventures. The company was founded by Sudhanshu Bhatia, Mohan Kumar, and Sushant Timmapur. Bhatia began developing the concept while working at American Express. The startup currently employs 41 full-time staff.
The platform allows users to play against bots before competing with real players. Matiks recently launched an experimental game-creation tool named Jelo and began testing a subscription service this month. User engagement has increased significantly, with daily users rising from 22,000 earlier in the year to over 300,000 by September. The company reported 2.2 million monthly active users during that period. While the majority of players are based in India, the platform has also gained traction in the U.S., South Korea, and Japan.
Matiks plans to use the new capital to scale its platform by expanding into newer markets. Rahul Humayun, a partner at General Catalyst, described the company as having a unique vision, product, and community.
