DreamHost forced password resets for email and FTP/SFTP users after an incident disrupted connections to the File Manager interface. The issue began on October 23 when the File Manager went offline and some webmail users were signed out. The company blocked access to all users until they completed password resets as a precautionary measure. Affected account owners received recovery instructions in batches over the weekend. As of the article's publication, the incident remained active and access to the File Manager was still unavailable.

DreamHost advised impacted users to review email forwarding rules and remove unrecognized destinations. The company stated it cannot contact individual mailbox or FTP users directly because their passwords were reset. DreamHost urged users to change reused passwords on other platforms if their old DreamHost password was used elsewhere. The provider confirmed it would never email users asking for their password or ask them to log in through a link. Users were instructed to allow up to 15 minutes for a new password to take effect after resetting it.
