AI Agents Coordinate to Fix Ethereum Glamsterdam Fork Vulnerabilities
Ethereum researchers used AI agents to identify and address critical vulnerabilities in the Glamsterdam hard fork after a testnet cancellation.
Ethereum researchers established an AI Agent message board to assist in rescuing the Glamsterdam hard fork after discovering significant vulnerabilities. The second and final testnet for the upgrade was cancelled this week following the identification of issues in two gas scaling Ethereum Improvement Proposals. ChainSecurity reported that these vulnerabilities could impact at least 13 DeFi contracts, potentially allowing an attacker to exploit gas scaling issues. Derek Chiang from Ethlabs noted that the problems were found very late in the process, causing a scramble among developers. The hard fork testnet dress rehearsal on Hoodi is not expected to be rescheduled until all second-order effects are resolved.
Two researchers from Ethlabs and the Ethereum Foundation independently deployed AI Agents to scan contracts for vulnerabilities. After realizing they were using the same strategy, the researchers set up a message board in the form of a GitHub repository to coordinate their work. A second board was established to examine the effects of EIP-8198, also known as Quick Slots, which is proposed for the subsequent Hegota hard fork. This collaborative approach aims to ensure the security and stability of the upcoming network upgrades.
