Uber rolls out ChatGPT Work to 30,000 employees
Uber has expanded its pilot of ChatGPT Work to its entire global workforce, marking its first company-wide deployment of an agentic platform for knowledge work.
Uber announced the company-wide rollout of ChatGPT Work, making the tool available to more than 30,000 employees across its global workforce. The expansion marks Uber's first company-wide deployment of an agentic platform tailored for knowledge work. The company and OpenAI announced the expansion of their partnership on Thursday.
The rollout follows an initial pilot involving 1,000 employees earlier this year. A majority of early adopters in that pilot were non-engineers, accounting for some 80%. These users applied the tool to analyze complex data, localize training materials, and build personalized interactive dashboards. ChatGPT Work connects with Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Slack to enable various tasks. Uber will deploy GPT-6.1 Sol as the default capability within the platform.
The rollout is supported by Uber's internal AI skills library, approved integrations, and dedicated employee training. Uber's developers and software engineering teams will continue using Codex to accelerate software development. Sumanth Sukumar stated that Uber will track employee usage and evaluate outcomes to guide future AI deployment. The company did not disclose how much it is spending on the new rollout.
Uber and OpenAI plan to share further insights into adoption, use cases, and measurable outcomes as the rollout progresses. OpenAI has moved quickly to scale up its enterprise business as it competes with Anthropic. Uber's approach is to make powerful AI tools available while giving teams room to experiment.
