Runware to mass-produce AI data center pods
Runware plans to scale its Romania-based factory to produce 30 megawatts of data center capacity daily by 2028.
Runware is developing modular AI data center pods using an assembly line approach similar to automotive manufacturing. The startup currently operates two factories in Romania, with the second facility expected to go online early next year. Runware aims to scale production to 30 megawatts of capacity per day by 2028, which would result in nearly one gigawatt of capacity produced monthly. The company states that a pod will soon take one day to build, compared to three weeks previously, and can be brought online within 48 hours of installation.
The modular systems use a closed-loop liquid cooling system with air-cooled radiators, eliminating the need for a water connection. Runware claims the pods run completely silent up to 86 degrees Fahrenheit and aims to use renewable sources as its main energy source. The startup has raised more than $60 million to date and plans to raise a Series B round after launching its new factory. Runware has also hired an experienced plant manager from the automotive industry to help execute its manufacturing plans.
Flaviu Radulescu stated that customers should be able to have a hyperscale data center working in months instead of years. Runware claims it has received $1 billion in committed interest for its Sonic pods since offering them to outside customers a month ago. The company is working with power providers on a site pipeline covering 397 megawatts, with potential to expand to 1.2 gigawatts. Runware plans to bring its new factory online early next year before expanding to the U.S. and other regions worldwide.
