OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra, a model designed for fast and efficient computer use at scale. The company describes the release as a significant improvement over the previous GPT-5.6 Terra model. Standard API prices for the new model are 50% lower than those of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. The standard input token price is set at $1 per million tokens.

GPT-6.1 Terra is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Developers can access the model through the OpenAI API using the identifier gpt-6.1-terra. The model supports text and image inputs but does not support audio or video input.

Performance benchmarks show GPT-6.1 Terra scoring 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra on the Agents' Last Exam benchmark at medium reasoning effort. On the OSWorld 2.1 benchmark, it surpasses the previous model's best score at a fraction of the cost per task. The new model solves 50.3% of tasks on Terminal-Bench 4.0, more than double the 21.5% score of GPT-5.6 Terra. Under OpenAI's Preparedness Framework, GPT-6.1 Terra meets the Critical threshold in cybersecurity. It is also more likely to stay within scope and honestly disclose limitations compared to its predecessor.
