Microsoft releases Windows 11 update with right-click menu controls
Microsoft has released a preview cumulative update for Windows 11 that introduces customizable right-click menus and a new cloud-based reinstall feature.
Microsoft released the KB5127936 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 26H2. The update includes 41 changes and is currently undergoing a gradual rollout before moving to normal distribution for all devices. This release addresses user complaints regarding the right-click menu by adding a customize menu button. Users can now control which commands appear when they right-click their mouse, including toggling built-in options like Send To or Create Shortcut on or off. The update also allows users to rearrange items on the main menu and control which third-party extensions appear in main or submenus.
The update introduces a new feature called Cloud Rebuild for reinstalling Windows 11 directly from the cloud. This process pulls the Windows 11 image and needed system drivers directly from Windows Update, eliminating the need for a custom recovery image or external media. Cloud Rebuild behaves more like a fresh Windows install than a repair, meaning existing applications and files will not be included. Users can also sanitize entire system drives prior to reinstalling using this feature.
The announcement of the update comes alongside Microsoft's quarterly financial report showing a decline in PC revenue.
