The Verge assigned a score of 7 out of 10 to the iPhone Duo. The publication’s hosts, David and Nilay, debated whether the device deserved that specific rating. They also discussed whether the product would have been better received if it had launched as an iPad rather than an iPhone. The hosts considered if the device would be better accepted if it were simply called the iPad Duo.

Daring Fireball’s John Gruber suggested that the outer screen of the iPhone Duo might be the worst iPhone ever. The device starts at a price of $2,000. Netflix was one of Apple’s hand-picked partners for the launch. By the time the iPhone Duo shipped, the MLB, NYT Cooking, and Slack apps were Duo-optimized.

Indie developers have also created software for the platform. Vidit Bhargava designed Deck-Man, formerly known as Duo-Man, which is a music player app. Phil Traut created the TypeDraw app, described as a personal notebook with an elastic closure band. Wakeout is another workout app designed for the iPhone Duo.
