A user launched HackerBooks, a project designed to function like Karpathy's HackerTube but for books mentioned on Hacker News. The site contains data on approximately 16,500 books that were mentioned by at least two different commenters. This dataset covers mentions from 2007 until the present. Each book entry links back to the specific comments that mentioned it. The data used for the project is downloadable from the about page.

Claude wrote almost all of the project, including the data pipeline and the site itself, using Opus 5.5. The user mostly steered the project, made calls, and bought the domain name. HackerBooks counts mentions of books, meaning both praise and criticism are included in the data. The user invites feedback if a favorite book is missing or matched to the wrong thing.

The Show HN post for HackerBooks received 1,247 points and generated 221 comments. The comments section contains a link to item ID 50326821 on news.ycombinator.com.
