Chrome AI Autofill Now Pulls Data From Gmail
Google expanded Chrome's autofill to suggest flight and order details from Gmail for U.S. users.
Google announced an update to Chrome's autofill capabilities on Wednesday, allowing the browser to suggest flight confirmation numbers, membership IDs, tracking information, and order numbers by referencing Gmail. This expansion of the Personal Intelligence feature is available to U.S. users of Gemini in Chrome who have the setting enabled. The rollout began on desktop, Android, and iOS, with no date given for other countries.
Users can decide whether to enable enhanced autofill from their Chrome settings and manage what data it accesses. Google states that sensitive data is encrypted for this feature and that users remain in control. Credit card numbers and addresses are part of Chrome's standard autofill saved in the browser, not the new Gmail-based feature, which specifically lists order numbers, tracking information, and flight bookings as data pulled from Gmail.
Google also states that Gemini and AI Mode do not train directly on user Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. Users can choose whether to connect their apps and switch connections off at any time. Separately, Google revised its privacy policy effective October 16 to allow personalized ads to draw on Gmail, Drive, and Photos content if users choose, though this content is not used for ad targeting by default.
